AWS Load Balancing Control Plane platform is one of the largest in the industry, managing service endpoints for Amazon services with billions of requests. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to define and build our next-generation Console and Tools. This team owns the Console and Tools for our internal load balancing services, and over time will own an external customer facing Console as well. This leader will own staffing and managing the team for a key part of the service, setting the team culture, best practices, planning, and delivering on the product roadmap. The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, be very customer-centric and able to think big.
Our mission is to enable all internal Amazon service owners to completely manage load-balancing for their services. We develop highly available and robust Consoles so that all Amazon service owners can build/scale their services, and safely manage deployments and existing endpoints in a completely automated fashion. Our Console and Tools make it easy for customers to manage their load balancers and services that strictly adhere to Amazon availability and security best practices and make it impossible to perform actions that are unsafe, and difficult to set up services that do not adhere to best practice guidelines.

We are looking for a strong leader who prioritizes well, communicates clearly and understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. They are a seasoned, mature engineering leader who is comfortable building teams and developing staff. This person has a proven track record of building a culture centered on customer focus, efficient execution, high quality, rigorous testing, deep monitoring, and solid deployment practices. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must.

* Enjoy building large scale Consoles and Tools. Drive the development of software framework that allows AWS and Amazon retail systems to use load balancing solutions seamlessly. Identify areas of improvement in our existing frameworks, tool, and processes and strive to make them better. You will enjoy keeping your technical skills reasonably current and can contribute meaningfully to architecture discussions.
* Have strong project & product management experience. The successful candidate will create product roadmaps for the team. This will include helping innovate and invent new value-add services. You will need excellent technical project management skills to deliver product roadmap items as well as other cross-team projects. Experience with Agile methodologies is an advantage.
* Know how to run a tight, lean, efficient operation. The right candidate will want to measure everything and be very data driven. He/she will excel at using metrics, monitoring and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of their team.
