Job Description

Amazon’s Infrastructure Security Engineering is responsible for securing the Networks and Operating Systems that run Amazon's Consumer and Digital systems globally. If you buy physical or digital products from Amazon, anywhere in the world, you use our platform.

As a Technical Program Manager on the Infrastructure Security Engineering team, you will be a leader and innovator, finding new ways to do things better, faster, more efficiently, without compromising our focus on security, compliance, and customer trust.

Our Technical Program Managers are experts in their field, doing what needs to be done, focusing on our customers and ensuring the security of their data. You will work directly with service teams across all of Amazon to ensure our high security bar is maintained while the business’s need are met. You will be involved at all stages of the development process, from inception through design, implementation and rollout as well as having oversight on existing services.

Your ability to see the big picture and influence others will help drive the implementation of solutions that build on our world-class systems and provide for improvement and innovation. Your work directly impacts how Amazon does business, providing a secure, robust, and reliable infrastructure upon which our partners, business organizations, and customers rely. General knowledge across all security domains, and a deep speciality in at least one, where you are considered a subject matter expert.

What you do…

To ensure business and technical stakeholder needs are aligned, you drive mindful discussions that lead to crisp decisions. You provide a long-term perspective, context (past, current, and future) for business and technology choices. You collaborate with customers and technology teams to determine which projects move forward and in what priority order. You use your technical judgement to question proposals and test assumptions. You clearly communicate progress and outcomes. You solve ambiguous problems and pro-actively identify and mitigate risks (before they become roadblocks). You demonstrate good judgement in how and when to escalate (without damaging relationships). You are data-driven. You regularly review metrics and pro-actively seek out new and improved data/mechanisms for visibility, ensuring your program stays aligned with organization objectives.

You will be managing a queue of consultations from across the enterprise, assisting Amazon service teams to ensure we maintain a high security bar as our internal infrastructure grows. You’ll liaise with Security Engineers, Development Engineers, Service Team Managers and Senior Managers across Amazon as an ambassador for the Infrastructure Security Team, evangelising Security best practices, delivering technical leadership and guaranteeing customer trust.

You understand technical program management and engineering best practices. You may be asked to use your knowledge to assess development processes, test plans, and operations/maintenance requirements. You are an excellent communicator. You write excellent narratives and present them effectively to Directors and VPs. You routinely deliver the right things with limited guidance. When confronted with discordant views, you are able to find the best way forward and influence others to follow that path. You actively recruit and develop others by mentoring in your organization and/or at your location.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Requires 2+ years of relevant program management experience.
  • Broad experience, across functional and technical areas, designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining large scale projects.
  • Expertly skilled at gathering functional requirements and converting those into a realistic, detailed functional spec and project plan.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint
  • Technical knowledge in industry standard technologies.
  • Can independently identify down-stream technical problems (i.e. system incompatibility, resource unavailability) and escalate them to the appropriate tech resource before they become project-threatening.
  • Brings a department and company-wide perspective to decision making.
  • Has a deep understanding of the business’ and end user’s needs, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right solution.
  • Can properly prioritize competing projects across departments.
