Job Description

Are you a "Find it, Fix it, Automate it, Never worry about it again" kind of engineer? Do you enjoy writing automation software? Do you love integrating software? Do you have a passion for system engineering, Linux, Ruby, Python or Perl, and deep diving incredibly hard technical problems? Then, this role is for you!

At Amazon Web Services, we build and maintain one of the largest collection of servers on the planet. Our goal is to become “The Infrastructure Platform” to the world. We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic and talented Systems Development Engineers to help us to automate how we provision and manage these servers. Your job will be to work with AWS services such as S3 and DynamoDB to automate server provisioning and life cycle management using the latest cloud and serverless technologies.

As a System Development Engineer working within AWS Infrastructure you will:
  • Work closely with AWS service owners to translate their scaling, security, and availability requirements into designs for server provisioning and management.
  • Participate in original implementation of and creation of new features for internal web services, alongside Software Development Engineers.
  • Ensure that all systems are designed to be robust, scalable, maintainable and adaptable as the network and its topology changes over time.
  • Continuously strive for operational excellence by seeking to automate away manual processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of relevant software industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, Perl, and/or Bash scripts.
  • Experience with operating services and large geo-distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of Operating Systems, preferably Linux.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be highly innovative, flexible and self-directed.
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
  • Deep experience integrating software solutions, automating manual processes and/or building portals or internal tools.
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch and providing ongoing support during normal operations and subsequent upgrade and improvement cycles.
  • Strong understanding of system and application performance characteristics.
  • Working knowledge of Agile development methods.
