Job Description

We Pioneer - Amazon is a leader in worldwide e-commerce, building innovative technologies and experiences that are changing the way people find, discover and buy products and services.
Amazon`s Legal Department is looking for an EU-qualified Employment Lawyer to support our growing businesses across Europe. You will be the primary point of contact for the business partners and HR teams and work on a broad range of issues that can include restructuring projects, acquisitions, due diligence for business expansion projects as well as ensuing individual employment related issues. You will help define our strategy for countries in which we are not yet present, develop policies to help guide local management and set up training plans and conduct training sessions on site. In this role you will work very closely with our EU-wide colleagues , as well as our legal teams in Seattle and Luxembourg. This is a great role for an EU-qualified employment lawyer who seeks a new challenge, testing their business and legal judgement outside of their trained jurisdiction. Excellent organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication will be keys to success. You will need to be hands on and able to work independently in a constantly changing and sometimes ambiguous and complex environment. You also need common sense, good judgment, creative thinking, and—importantly—a sense of humor.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Advising business teams on expansion projects, including setting up a presence in a new country and the regulatory requirements for employing individuals in those countries.
  • Advising the HR and business teams on a wide range of employment related issues, including regulatory matters, in the various geographies you support.
  • Drafting and implementing employment policies and standard documentation in close collaboration with the HR teams and stakeholders globally
  • Proactive planning, advising and implementing legal and compliance programs and improvements to support and protect the business
  • The administration and resolution of government inquiries as well as a wide range of employment disputes, including litigation.
  • Working with specialist outside counsel in multiple geographies

Basic Qualifications

  • Fully qualified lawyer with outstanding academic and legal qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years post-qualified legal experience with at least five years at a reputed law firm with focus on employment law
  • Experience in employment law related matters, negotiation and litigation
  • Strong commercial background
  • High degree of independence, initiative and decisiveness
  • Great business discernment especially in ambiguous situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver results, both as an individual contributor and as a member of the European and global legal teams
  • Capacity to lead projects and coordinate external advisors

Preferred Qualifications

Strong drafting, negotiating and deal-making experience is a requirement, as are project management skills and top analytical skills. You are enthusiastic, enjoy working hard and getting things done, and demonstrate sound judgment. You will also have the ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
