Audible, Inc. is the world’s largest seller and producer of spoken audio entertainment, information and educational programming. Since inventing and commercializing the first portable digital audio player in 1997, our focus on technological innovation and superior programming has earned us millions of members around the world. We’re an Amazon subsidiary with a presence on three different continents, yet we maintain a startup vibe and small company feel. We offer more than 200,000 downloadable audiobooks, audio editions of periodicals, and other programs, and an escalating array of listening products that enrich daily life for a growing population of people who want to be more productive, well-informed, and thoughtfully entertained. Your Responsibilities:
As Financial Controller for the UK and Australia you will work closely with the Finance Director within this dynamic and growing online retailer, with exposure to all areas of the accounting and control function. You will be involved in everything from day to day double entry on the general ledger and financial admin such as paying suppliers, right up to preparation of the monthly results pack, dealing with external auditors, assessing and improving the control environment, and liaising closely with the Amazon tax teams.
We are ideally looking for a qualified accountant with experience in a fast-paced high growth e-commerce/retail sector. The ability to scale from low-level day-to-day book-keeping to high-level preparation and analysis of management accounts, whilst getting involved in regular ad hoc and project work, is essential. You will need to be proactive, flexible and able to adapt your approach to your work, and willing to take on project specific and ad hoc tasks as required. You will be a quick learner, and will assume responsibility for all day to day accounting and compliance matters.
Key deliverables include managing the month end close, balance sheet reconciliations, royalty processing (preparation, review and payments – experience in this area would be helpful but is not essential), AP processing, month end financial statement preparation, analysis and review, cash flow forecasting, tax compliance and working with external auditors. We expect you to review current processes, and suggest and implement improvements to increase efficiency and enhance the controls environment. You will also work closely with US colleagues to draft and update accounting policies in line with any changes to standards.
Our Finance team is a key partner to the wider business and part of the role of Financial Controller is to ensure that these relationships are managed and maintained appropriately, whilst providing subject matter expertise on both day to day issues and key initiatives. With key colleagues in the US, Germany, and the UK, strong communication skills are critical to your success in this role. You will have two direct reports and be responsible for their ongoing training and development.
