Military hiring is a crucial element of our company-wide business plan, for identifying future leaders; we’re also enjoying rapid growth in the UK and we need high calibre leaders to join us and push the boundaries of possible. Specifically, we’re recruiting military talent for the following three main roles in Amazon Operations: Area Managers:
At a grass roots level, Area Managers have some of the most crucial, internally-facing leadership roles in the company. They assume charge of one the major departments within the Fulfillment Center they join, then deliver on targeted KPIs.
To this end, they implement and adapt the experience they’ve gained in running complex operations environments, such as supply chain, transportation or logistics workplaces. While they achieve this, they combine this action with strong interpersonal and project management skills. Each and every day, they’re comfortable making high impact decisions in fast-moving scenarios. Typically these candidates hold a degree and have several years of military leadership experience. Operations Managers:
Operations Manager roles are all about influencing and enacting tangible changes and improvements, throughout all possible aspects of their particular area of operations.
From day one, they assume leadership of a pivotal area of the Fulfillment Center they join: either Inbound or Outbound areas of order fulfillment. Furthermore, their high-level goal is deceptively simple: they need to maintain and deliver on the excellent customer service that Amazon is well-known for. They make this happen by planning resources, managing their direct reports, and through coordinating multiple, simultaneous work streams – both from a programme and project management standpoint. Typically, these high-flying candidates hold MBAs and have more than 5 years military and/or civilian leadership experience. Senior Operations Managers:
Also typically holders of MBA qualifications, these leaders have gained between 10-20+ years of high-level leadership experience, in managing both other managerial level colleagues, as well as teams of direct reports. These accomplished professionals have considerable impact on their Fulfillment Center, in terms of operational efficiency, cost efficiency and customer service excellence. They report directly to their site’s General Manager, while ensuring everyone in their facility adheres closely to safety and quality procedures and guidelines. Above all, these individuals have the drive and vision to encourage lean and kaizen methodology usage, in order to fully unlock the potential of their Fulfillment Center. These high-potentials have at least 7 years of military and/or civilian leadership experience.
