We are looking for an individual with a strong interest in building Amazon’s next generation of last mile transportation planning systems. As part of the Amazon Logistics team, we design and build systems that support planning decisions, measure and manage the last mile transportation, real estate investments, and resource planning.

As an Operations Research Scientist, you will develop new solutions to improve the performance of Amazon Logistics. Working closely with groups such as program managers, operation, business analysts and research scientists, you will support various business initiatives and use your experience in modeling, statistics, simulation and optimization to design models of new policies, simulate and optimize their performance, and evaluate their benefits and impacts to cost, reliability, and speed of our outbound transportation network. You will present your findings to your peers and senior management, and work with program managers to integrate the findings into our product plans.

This position requires superior analytic thinkers, who are able to quickly approach large ambiguous problems and apply their technical and statistical knowledge to identify opportunities for further research. You should be able to independently mine and analyze data, and be able to use any necessary programming and statistical analysis software to do so. Successful candidates must thrive in fast-paced environments which encourage collaborative and creative problem solving and be able to measure and estimate risks.

Basic Qualifications

• Masters or Bachelors Degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
• Experience in designing and implementing optimization models for inventory, network flows and other characteristics of supply-chain systems (e.g., staff scheduling, vehicle routing, and facility location), accompanied by associated expertise in the use of tools and the latest technology (e.g. CPLEX, Gurobi, XPRESS).
• Good communication skills with both technical and business people. Ability to speak at a level appropriate for the audience.
• The ability to implement models and tools through the use of high-level modeling languages (e.g. Mosel, R).
• Experience prototyping and developing software in traditional programming languages (e.g. C++, Java).
• Familiarity with SQL and experience with very large-scale data.

Preferred Qualifications

· Ph.D. in Operations Research, Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Mathematics or a related field.
· Proven track of record in innovation, such as published articles and patented models.
· Experience in consultancy, supply chain, and inventory optimization models and applying mathematical models to drive strategic and tactical business decisions.
· Solid skills in gathering and processing large amounts of data with SQL, Oracle, MySQL, and RedShift
· Fluency in implementing models using Matlab, VBA, and C/C++.
Good communication skills with both technical and business people. International background. Ability to speak at a level appropriate for the audience.
