    Amazon Development Centre London is seeking a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join the Prime Video Distribution team and work with the A-list of home entertainment manufacturers to bring Prime Video to the latest and greatest home entertainment devices. If you like getting your hands dirty, working with cutting edge entertainment hardware, and shipping product, then this is the place to be. The team has already launched the Prime Video application on a wide range of living room devices from Samsung, LG and Sony amongst others.

    The SDE will be part of a software development team integrating and testing client applications for the distribution of Prime Video on big-screen devices such as Smart TVs, Blu-Ray Players and Set Top Boxes. They will work to deliver a superlative and immersive experience to Prime Video customers on a growing range of devices, as well as troubleshoot device integrations to improve the customer experience. While most of the work is focused on delivering a high-quality experience on living room devices, a proportion of your engineering time will be dedicated to implementing tools for the team to be able to move faster with device approvals. The learnings and observations gathered while integrating the Prime Video application on these devices will be directly applied to identify automation candidates among these processes. You will play a key role in building these software products and features from the ground up and moreover, you will have the freedom and encouragement to explore your own ideas and the reward of seeing your contributions benefit millions of Amazon customers worldwide.

    The role is based in the London Development Centre and will provide opportunity to travel to partner sites in Europe, Asia and America. We'd love to have you join us and build the systems, services and apps that delight our end users and enable our teams to move faster.


    Basic Qualifications

    • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design.
    • Highly proficient in at least one of Java, C++, C#, Objective-C.
    • Experience with one or more of JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, Python.
    • Evidence of working with algorithms, data-structures, efficiency, concurrency, performance optimization.
    • Evidence of working with object-oriented development and design patterns.
    • OS fundamentals and systems architecture.
    • Cloud computing, large-scale and high-availability distributed architecture.
    • Experience working in an Agile environment.
    • Strong analytical and excellent problem solving skills.
    • Strong written and verbal English communications skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Linux/UNIX including command-line tools and scripting.
    • Web development (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript).
    • Databases including SQL, noSQL, schema design and optimization.
    • Big data, machine learning and other statistical analysis.
    • Highly pragmatic; we use technology to solve real-world problems expediently.
